India to Quiz Philip Morris On Marketing of Marlboro

On Friday, Reuters reports that India plans to seek an explanation from Philip Morris International about its marketing practices. Reuters reported earlier this week that the tobacco giant used tactics that government officials say break the country’s law. According to Reuters, Philip Morris advertises Marlboro cigarettes at tobacco shops in India and distributes free smokes at local nightclubs and bars to promote the brand to young people. Indian government officials previously have said these marketing activities violate the country’s Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.
