How to “Game” Social Media and Get Eyeballs on Your Work
Spoiler alert, there is no successful ways to “game” social media, the platform developers create algorithms to prevent this, so instead of trying to cheat your way to the top try using the platforms the way they are intended.
Be a person, not a brand. Creating a post that says “Hey, I hope everyone is safe and cozy inside if you are being hit by this snowstorm, I’m gonna hunker down and work on some angora mittens for my shop. What are you up to today?” is so much better than ” Visit my shop to see 3 new styles of mittens.” Have a conversation on social media, interact. It’s called social media for a reason.
Share a photo when you share a link. Newsflash, social sites don’t like it when you drive people off their platform. Instead of simply sharing a link to your latest blog post, shop offering or video upload a photo and put the link in the body of text. The social sites will show your fans the photo where they might hide it if it is only a link. Social loves pictures.
Ask yourself “Why?” Not all sites will be a fit for your brand. The goal of social sharing should be one of 2 things: To interact with your customers and bring brand awareness to your art OR to funnel people to your website [or send them to your store] to buy. Don’t send people off your turf to a social site for no reason, it’s a big distracting world out there.
Automate smartly. I send my daily blog post to twitter, G+ and Facebook using Networked blogs because it posts a photo from my blog in the body of the post and people see it, click and read the rest on my blog. Instagram posts automate to Facebook and Twitter, effective on facebook because Instagram and FB have the same owners so the photo is shown. Only a link is shown in twitter, not as effective because people have to click away to see and most do not want to. YouTube videos automate to G+ (same owner, shows thumbnail) and twitter (no thumbnail) so with little effort I cover a lot of bases But then I go to twitter a few hours later, upload a photo and share the link to my video, livestream etc. Automation can help you cover the bases but you still need to check in like a human. Scheduling programs can help with this as well if you can’t remember when to post.

Content Marketing Tips for Nonprofits

Welcome to: http://WholeWhale.com/
-You finally built your website…now what? You made all this great content but nobody is coming to your site. To cure your headaches watch this training video about very useful content marketing tips for your Nonprofit organization.

To learn more, check out: http://www.wholewhale.com/tips/conten…

——-
What Is Content Marketing?

It’s pretty simple actually. Think of it as two different buckets for your website. One of them is what you already have (the “about us” page, or your “mission statement”). The other bucket is – what people want. They want what they’re searching for. So again – what is content marketing? It’s creating valuable, relevant, and consistent content in order to attract a specific audience.

——-
How To “Do” Content Marketing?

1.Have a content platform

Now that you know what it is, how do you actually “do” content marketing? It starts by having a platform. You need a content management system – think WordPress, Drupal.

2.Create regular content

You have your platform, and now it’s time to start playing the game. Think about your audience. What do they need? What do they fear? Find the value that they’re looking for that helps them, informs them, or in some way improves what they’re already doing.

3.Create “evergreen” content

Think of an evergreen tree. It’s green all year, it doesn’t shed, but at certain times of the year, like during Christmas, thousands of people are looking for evergreen trees to put in their homes. Think about content that could be relevant year-round, but also have episodic spikes of interest throughout the year. That’s the type of content that will produce the most value.

4.Have “hooks” to build an audience you can talk to

As a nonprofit – you’re probably giving away free content, and free things all the time. Well, you will lose money if you continue to do that. This is why you need a “hook”. In other words – “why would somebody give you their information?” For this example, let’s think about an e-mail. If you get the person’s e-mail, and that permission to talk to them, the next time you put out free content you can reach out to them. You can also contact them the next time you do a fundraiser, or when looking for volunteers, etc. That’s how you build your audience. This is the most valuable asset that your organization will have.

5.Content distribution

You created all this amazing content, now how do you get it out there? There are two simple ways. One is SEO – Search Engine Optimization. You have to build your site using the right keywords, and put it where people can find it. The other way to distribute your content is through SMO – Social Media Optimization. You can talk to anybody you want on social media. Create relationships. Perhaps you’ve written an article that highlights a different organization, or a product? Let them know! At some point they might feature your organization on their site. That’s the cycle you want to create.

——-
You Must Measure It!

This is the most important. How will you know if what you’re doing, is right? Look at your Google Analytics, and check what the data say. Then – adjust based on the results. Look for how people are searching for your types of content, and mimic what’s out there. Do more of what works and expand on it.

Whole Whale is a digital agency that leverages data and technology to increase the impact of nonprofits. In the same way the Inuits used every part of whale, Whole Whale leverages existing resources to see, “What else can this do for us?”

By using data analysis, digital strategy, web development, and training, WW builds a ‘Data Culture’ within every nonprofit organization they work with.

Of course we belong to the digital age; we are so dependent on our smart phones on our computers and on our tablets. We love them way too much. There are certain basic business skills that are required even in this digital age in order to craft your career and make it more meaningful and rewarding for you.

1. Develop good communication skills

The first and the most important thing that you need to keep in mind is communication skills. Well, of course communication skills are very important. And why is that? Computers will help you with all the information, with all the knowledge that you need in order to probably conduct a meeting or to present yourself. However these computers or your phones are not gonna do the talking for you, it’s you, it’s your ability to speak. It’s your ability to question. It’s your ability to present and listen to others. It’s time for you to work on these skills in order to come out as a very confident and effective person.

2. Improve relationship building

The second important skill that one requires is relationship building. Well, of course it is important for us to build and maintain good relations with the people that we work. For example, look at the importance that we give to our family members, to our children, to our parents, to our partners. Don’t you think equal importance should be given to your business family as well? Social media and email will help you to maintain a good relationship; however that feeling, that desire to keep in touch with people should come from within. You have to work in order to keep in touch with your bosses, with your co-workers, your suppliers, with your clients and so on. If you wanna come out as a very productive person and be happy with what you are doing, it’s important for you to build good relations.

3. Follow time management

Prioritizing your work, organizing your work and goal setting, these are the key factors to time management. Your phone will help you to set reminders for you, but it’s not gonna do the task for you. So it’s important for you to prioritize your work, what is important and then go ahead and perform that task well. This is the way you will come out as a very productive person; you will achieve success as soon as possible. If you don’t wanna be burdened with too much of work. Well, it’s time to manage and organize your time well, so please do keep in mind, because this is one of the most important skills that are required in the business world.

4. Work on your passion

You need to work on is your passion and determination. Passion and determination comes from within, that insane desire to do something productive. Yes it comes from within, your phone is not gonna knock at your door and tell you that, Hey! You need to be passionate about something; you need to be determined to achieve your goals. It’s you who has to work hard, you need to put in those efforts, you need to be diligent towards your goals. So in order to be successful and productive, effective and impress the world, go ahead and start living for yourself.

5. Be flexible and adaptable

And the last important thing that you need to keep in mind, when it comes to business skills is flexibility and adaptability. Well, technology is changing constantly. You have a product and like in another ten days you have another new product. So it’s important for you to adapt to these new things. You need to be open to new ideas. You are working with people who belong to different age groups, so even the thinking process is gonna differ. So wouldn’t it be important for you to be flexible enough and accept these ideas openly? Yes, so go ahead and be adaptable and flexible in this changing world.

Always remember that business was, is and will be all about people. So do not be dependent on these gadgets way too much, instead work on your business skills and you’ll be very successful one day. Don’t forget to subscribe to our channel Skillopedia – The place to learn skills for the real world.
