Một công ty nọ muốn tuyển người bán hàng giỏi đã trao cho mỗi người trong hàng trăm ứng viên, 100 chiếc lược và đề nghị họ đến các chùa để bán. Cái oái oăm là ở chùa sư đã xuống tóc, làm gì có nhu cầu sử dụng lược. Mà không có nhu cầu thì sao bán được hàng. Hàng trăm người đã ra đi nhưng hầu hết bó tay. Tuy thế có ba người bán được hàng.

Người thứ nhất mang lược đến chùa vừa chào hàng đã bị các vị sư mắng và cho rằng anh này giễu cợt họ không có tóc, nên đuổi đi. Nhưng anh này vẫn cắn răng chịu đứng cầu xin họ mua lược. Cuối cùng, một vị sư thương tình mua giùm một chiếc lược.

Người thứ hai, sau khi đi vòng quanh một ngôi chùa trên núi, tóc bị gió thổi tung xác xơ, anh ta xin gặp sư trụ trì. Ðược gặp, anh ta chắp tay niệm “nam mô” và thưa rằng: “trên núi cao gió thổi mạnh, các thiện nam tín nữ đến đây dâng hương mà tóc tai rối bù, e không thành kính trước cửa Phật. Xin nhà chùa chuẩn bị một vài chiếc lược để trước lúc dâng hương các phật tử chải tóc cho gọn gàng, không bù rối”. Nghe anh ta nói có lý, sư trụ trì đồng ý mua lược. Nhà chùa có 10 lư hương nên mua 10 chiếc lược cho anh ta.

Còn người thứ ba, anh ta đến thẳng ngôi chùa lớn nhất vùng quanh năm hương khói nghi ngút. Anh xin gặp thượng toạ trụ trì mà thưa rằng: “Bạch thầy, chùa ta lớn nhất vùng, ngày nào cũng có hàng trăm tín đồ đến thắp hương. Phàm là người dâng hương, ai cũng có tấm lòng thành cúng quả. Chùa lớn như chùa ta, thiết tưởng cũng nên có chút tặng phẩm khuyến khích người làm việc thiện. Con có mang theo ít lược của công ty. Thầy có thư pháp hơn người, xin viết lên lược ba chữ “Lược tích thiện” làm tặng phẩm. Món quà này thật nhiều ý nghĩa”. Nhà chùa nghe ra, cũng hứng thú và mua liền 100 chiếc lược làm quà.

Như vậy, trong ba người bán lược cho sư, công ty đánh giá họ thế nào?

Người thứ nhất thuộc mẫu bán hàng cổ điển, cần cù nhẫn nại và kiên trì. Người thứ hai có năng lực quan sát, suy đoán sự việc, dám nghĩ dám làm. Còn người thứ ba, anh ta nghiên cứu phân tích kỹ nhu cầu và tâm lý của đám đông, có ý tưởng tốt, lại có giải pháp cụ thể nên đã mở ra một thị trường tốt cho sản phẩm. Ðây xứng đáng là người bán hàng giỏi của công ty. Anh ta đã được tuyển mộ làm phụ trách bán hàng.

Nhờ có Lược tích thiện làm quà tặng mà một đồn mười, mười đồn trăm, dân chúng đổ về đây dâng hương rất đông, danh tiếng chùa càng lừng lẫy và phương trượng chùa đã ký hợp động mua hàng nghìn chiếc lược của công ty. Rõ ràng, ở một nơi tưởng như không có nhu cầu, nếu chịu khó quan sát, phân tích các mối quan hệ, sẽ có thể phát hiện nhu cầu hoặc tìm cách kích cầu để bán hàng.
